Members of the Supreme Council of State call for an urgent session next Wednesday to complete the presidential elections

A statement attributed to the Supreme Council of State called on the council members to hold an urgent general session next Wednesday to complete the elections for the council’s presidency office.

The statement said that the invitation came at the request of members of the council, in accordance with Article 56 of the internal regulations, and at the invitation of the heads of the committees who saw “the importance of holding an urgent session to complete the elections.”

According to the statement, the session’s agenda includes completing the elections for the Council’s presidency office and discussing any new business.

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Council of State had held a previous session of the presidential office elections, but it was not completed due to a dispute over the result of the election of the council president, after the session’s rapporteur announced that Takala had obtained 68 votes compared to 69 votes for Al-Mishri, and then a discussion took place about the legality of an election paper on which Takala’s name was written on the back.

Last week, the heads of the permanent committees of the Supreme Council of State announced their refusal to participate in any public session held by either party to the dispute in the council, calling at the same time for a session next Wednesday to complete the election of the presidency office, considering that “the disputed ballot paper is invalid and not approved.”
