This Chinese delegation came to Burundi to exchange and discuss ways and means to deepen cooperation, especially in the areas of modern agriculture and infrastructure, said the Vice Governor of the province of Sichuan in China, Hun Yun.
The Minister in charge of Trade Chantal Nijimbere said that this is an opportunity to promote cooperation between Burundi and China. She specified that Burundi is ready to produce and export fruits, vegetables and flowers to the province of Sichuan in China.
The minister responsible for agriculture, Prosper Dodiko, thanked the People’s Republic of China for its support in the agricultural sector. He specified that the distribution of rice and hybrid corn seeds as well as the capacity building of agricultural cooperatives has enabled an increase in income within households.
3 documents were signed between the government of Burundi via the ministry in charge of agriculture and the People’s Republic of China, to concretize the commitments made in July of this year, by the Heads of State of these two countries.
Minister Prosper Dodiko explained that the first document is a collaboration document between his ministry and the province of Sichuan in China, the second between Isabu and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the province of Sichuan and the last, is a collaboration document between Isabu and a seed company in this province.
The minister in charge of agriculture said that soon, a seed company will be set up to produce corn and rice seeds initially, and seeds of other crops secondly.
