Men love pink

By the end of 2023, men’s fashion could be closer to women’s fashion than ever before. For centuries it worked the other way around, for example with trousers: in the 1950s, the women’s rights activist Amelia Bloomer drew attention to corsets and heavy underskirts that were far too tight and encouraged women to wear loose, wide trousers. Among the young and progressive, they became Bloomers.

In the 1920s, Coco Chanel introduced jersey pantsuits instead of suits. And Marlene Dietrich appeared on screen in a tuxedo in the following decade. Now pink is no longer quite as revolutionary for men in the 1920s as trousers were for women in the 1920s.

Of course pink: the color of choice for men

Even at the beginning of the noughties, men in raspberry-red polo shirts and piggy-pink shirts walked around golf courses and office corridors. Fashion history is rarely written in both places, which is perhaps why pink has not become a common color to this day. Unlike blue or green. Even behind the yellow, which is difficult to wear, there is not nearly as big a question mark. Pink remains feminine in connotation. Or does it have to mean: stayed?

The Man of the Year 2023 is Ken or Ryan Gosling, who embodied Ken in the film of the year (“Barbie”) with his wit and persuasiveness and encouraged many men to go to the cinema in pink. Pink is now almost the color of choice for men on the red carpet; Harry Styles, Daniel Craig and Idris Elba are showing the way.

You could also choose pale pink for everyday wear from all the colors of the rainbow that Mr Marvis has in its range of sweatshirts. Or Marc O’Polo’s fuchsia knit. Or the piggy pink fleece from Peak Performance. Or this hoodie from Closed, which is as reminiscent of a strawberry as it is of a Chesterfield sofa – which here is not brown or green, but of course pink.
