But let’s go back to talking about the “tennis boys”…
Men’s Tennis in Rome – The Italian Dream
Jannik Sinnercurrent number 2 in the world and leading the Italian contingent, enters the competition with the real possibility of becoming the first Italian to reach the position of world number 1 in the ATP.
This edition of the tournament could be the perfect stage for Sinner to consolidate his position at the top of world tennis, after showing increasing competence and determination in his previous appearances.
Sinner will participate for the sixth time at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. In 2019, the Italian tennis player won his first victory in a Masters 1000 against Steven Johnson (who at the time was 59th in the world rankings). But his best result was in 2022, when Sinner reached the quarter-finals, beating opponents such as fellow Italian Fabio Fognini and the combative Filip Krajinovic, before being stopped by Stefanos Tsitsipas who at the time was ranked no. 5 in the world.
Lorenzo Musetti, another young Italian talent, has already demonstrated his ability by surprising Stan Wawrinka in 2020, becoming the first player born in 2002 to win a game on the ATP Tour. With five victories in his appearances, Musetti is a promise for the future of Italian tennis and a threat to his opponents on Roman clay.
Other Italians like Matteo Arnaldi, Lorenzo Sonego, Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi e Luca Nardi are also confirmed to bring their best game to the tournament, with Sonego looking to repeat or surpass his success from 2021, when he reached a historic semi-final.
