The PAIME is a collegiate program that not only deals with the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of practicing physicians who are sick (mental health problems or addictions) and who may represent a risk to practice, and therefore to care. of their patients, but also of prevention and health promotion.

Since the PAIME Program was created in 1998, 8,071 doctors have been treated for mental disorders and/or addictions, and more than 90% of them have recovered and returned to the practice of medicine.

Compared to the last report in 2021, the PAIME attended to more than 40% of cases compared to the 2020-2021 period, in which the average was around 500 doctors treated per year and which has increased to the most of 850 cases a year.

Mental disorder continues to be the main reason for admission to the PAIME, with an increase of more than two points (84.9%) in these years, while addictive pathology represents 8.3%, of which 5. 6% is due to alcohol abuse and 3% is due to other toxic substances. More women and more cases between 31 and 40 years old

The percentage of female doctors affected by mental health and/or addiction problems and who ask for help from PAIME is 65%, that is, it continues to be higher than that of male doctors (35%), and continues its upward trend of recent years where the The percentage was 60% women compared to 40% men.

Family doctors, the most affected

86% of the plaintiffs practice in the public health system, 10% in private practice and 4% in both.

The specialty with the highest number of cases in the Sick Doctor Program is Family and Community Medicine and/or General Medicine, 44.5% in 2022.

In relation to the percentage of registration, Pediatrics and Psychiatry are the specialties that have the highest incidence.

Most come voluntarily.
