New research has shown that mental health issues are now the main reason for sick holidays in Britain, costing employers billions of pounds.

According to what was reported by Bloomberg News, citing the research, today, Wednesday, 85 million days of absence were recorded during the last quarter of 2022, and the loss is estimated at 12.3 billion pounds, and mental health problems were the cause of about 20% of these absences.

The analysis prepared by the Good Shape Foundation, which provides consulting in the field of employee performance, health and well-being, showed that the health crisis that erupted during the Corona epidemic period worsened two years after the lifting of the restrictions to combat the epidemic.

The research pointed to increased burdens for employers who are already struggling to find staff, after hundreds of thousands of workers have been out of the workforce since the pandemic, many of whom have taken sick leave.

Pressures on employers have led to higher wages and contributed to higher inflation, with negative effects on productivity, which has been growing slowly since the financial crisis 15 years ago.

Figures from the National Bureau of Statistics in Britain showed today, Wednesday, that worker productivity declined by 0.2% since the last quarter of last year, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
