Kochi: Malayalam film ‘Meppadiyan’ won the Best Picture award at the Bangalore International Film Festival. Meppadiyan won the award in the Indian film category, behind about 100 films. The film is directed by Vishnu Mohan and stars Unni Mukundan in the lead role and is produced by Unni Mukundan Films.

Karnataka Governor Tavarchand Gellot presented the film awards. Unni Mukundan and Vishnu Mohan received the award. Higher Education Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwat Narayan, D.V. Sadananda Gowda MP, P.P. The award ceremony was held in the presence of Ravi.

Meppadiyan tells the story of Jayakrishnan, a workshop worker in the countryside. The film stars Indrans, Saiju Kurup, Aju Varghese, Anju Kurian, Vijay Babu, Kalabhavan Shajon, Major Ravi, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Sreejith Ravi and Kottayam Ramesh among others.

Unni Mukundan has shared the award winning pictures on Facebook. Unni Mukundan would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have worked in Meppadiyan’s ranks and say that this book promotes his endeavors as an actor and producer. He added that he will be back with even better entertainment.

At the same time, many accused the BJP’s Hindutva agenda in Karnataka of being reflected in its awards at international film festivals. Earlier, Meppadiyan had to face widespread criticism in Kerala for its Sangh Parivar agendas which were hidden through cinema.
