MEPs grant the “green” label to nuclear power and gas

The Parliament validates the text of the taxonomy which classifies the activities favorable to the energy transition.

The European Parliament voted on Wednesday in Strasbourg in favor of the delegated act relating to the treatment of gas and nuclear in the taxonomy of green investments of the European Union (EU), following a vote tight (328 votes for, 278 against and 33 abstentions). The opponents of the inclusion of these two energies in the category of activities useful for the climate transition and who were proposing a resolution along these lines failed to gather the absolute majority (353 votes) necessary to reject the proposal of the European Commission. Given that at Council level the draft-averse member states did not gather a “super majority” of twenty countries to block the draft, the delegated act is expected to enter into force on January 1, 2023.
