DECRYPTION – General practitioners fear the emergence of two-tier medicine.

While 650,000 patients with long-term conditions do not have or no longer have a doctor, the government wants to make greater use of paramedics by delegating to them part of the tasks assigned to doctors. This is the whole purpose of the bill (PPL) brought by Renaissance MP Stéphanie Rist (Loiret) which will be debated this Monday in the Assembly, and is part of the response to the problem of “medical deserts”.

The purpose of this text is twofold. On the one hand, it aims to develop “direct access” to physiotherapists and speech therapists. In the event of a sprain, for example, a patient can go directly to the physiotherapist and be reimbursed by Social Security, without going through his doctor and without having a prescription. Same thing for accessing a speech therapist. “This should make the patient’s care pathway more fluid and free up medical time for doctors”explains Stéphanie Rist.
