Mercato Rennes: Matthis Abline on loan to Auxerre

by time news

In lack of playing time, the French international Espoirs Matthis Abline should leave Rennes in the coming days. Approached by several clubs, the 19-year-old striker is heading to AJ Auxerre. The Burgundy club identified him to strengthen their attacking sector after the departure of Gaëtan Charbonnier in Saint-Étienne. Discussions are well advanced for a loan without an option to buy until the end of the season.

The native of Angers took part in 15 matches in all competitions with Rennes, but only started two. He scored two goals, against Larnaca in the Europa League and… Auxerre in Ligue 1. Already last season, Matthis Abline had taken advantage of the winter transfer window to be loaned to Le Havre where he had revealed himself in Ligue 2 by scoring 6 goals over half a season.

As the transfer market officially opens on January 1, 2023, Auxerre is decidedly active. In parallel with discussions for Matthis Abline, AJA hired right-back Akim Zedadka from Lille in early December and should see Marseille defender Isaak Touré land at the start of the transfer window.
