Mercedes-Benz is bringing its new all-electric GLC 400 4MATIC to U.S. dealerships in the third quarter of 2026. The midsize SUV features an 800-volt architecture, a 94-kWh usable battery, and up to 350 miles of EPA driving range with standard 20-inch wheels.
Rather than converting an existing combustion-engine platform, the GLC 400 4MATIC Electric was built from the ground up on the Mercedes Modular Architecture dedicated EV platform.
Powertrain Performance and Battery Architecture Specs
Underneath the bodywork, the SUV relies on a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain paired with a two-speed transmission for the rear electric motor and a front disconnect unit. This setup optimizes efficiency across varying driving conditions. The system delivers a peak output of 360 kW and 800 Nm of torque, pushing the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Top speed is electronically capped at 130 mph, and the vehicle is rated for towing up to 5,291 pounds.
Energy storage comes from an 800-volt class Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery pack with a usable capacity of 94 kWh. When equipped with its default 20-inch wheels and summer tires, the model achieves an EPA driving range of up to 350 miles. Opting for all-season tires reduces that range by 5.4 percent down to 331 miles.
Charging Infrastructure and Station Access
Charging capabilities include a standard NACS DC charging port alongside a separate SAE J1772 AC inlet, both located on the passenger side rear. Thanks to a partnership granting Mercedes-Benz vehicles access to the Tesla Supercharging network beginning in February 2025, the SUV connects directly to Superchargers without adapters. Drivers can also utilize CCS1 fast chargers via an adapter.

For home charging, the vehicle incorporates a 9.6-kW onboard charger designed to fully replenish the battery in 12 hours when connected to a 40-amp, 240-volt home charging station on a 50-amp circuit. At DC fast-charging stations, the SUV supports peak charging power of 330 kW on 800-volt hardware, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in 22 minutes. A built-in voltage booster also permits charging at 400-volt stations, though power drops to 100 kW.
Exterior Styling and Design Polarization
The vehicle’s aesthetic departs sharply from older Mercedes EQ models like the EQE SUV and EQS SUV. Reviewers note that the exterior embraces a busy appearance filled with sharp lines and tight packaging, standing in stark contrast to competitor models that favor visual restraint. Test configurations have featured equipment packages like the AMG Line, Night Package, Digital Light headlights, and 20-inch five-spoke AMG wheels paired with MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red metallic paint.
