Mercedes-Benz do Brasil collaborated with the repression of the military dictatorship and spied on trade unionists and employees in the 1970s and 1980s at the São Bernardo do Campo factory, according to unpublished documents with the logo of the Department of Social Political Order (Dops) ) reading: “Source: Mercedes Benz.”
According to the records, the company’s security sector collected and transmitted information about the union and personal activities of metalworkers. There are also reports from the Air Force Information Service.
In the confidential files of the Dops, records have been found of the plans of trade unionists and workers to call strikes for better wages and demands for working conditions.
The company communication also reveals the names, titles, work sections and addresses of its own employees.
Mercedes-Benz do Brasil did not respond to questions sent by the newspaper. However, through a statement, he stated that several internal investigations have already been carried out on the role of the company and its possible collaboration with the dictatorship in Brazil.
“So far we have not identified any evidence of support for the military regime by the company,” the text reads. “At the moment, there is nothing to comment on.”
