West Virginia Awards $10.6 Million Contract to Rehab Key Mercer County Bridges

A major infrastructure project is underway in West Virginia, with the state Department of Highways (DOH) awarding a $10.6 million contract to Brayman Construction Corporation for the rehabilitation of the Oakvale bridges on U.S. Route 460 in Mercer County. The project, announced this week, aims to modernize the vital transportation links that carry over 10,000 vehicles daily.

The Oakvale bridges, originally constructed in 1972, are in need of significant repairs to ensure continued safety and efficiency for commuters and commercial traffic. The scope of work includes replacing the concrete bridge decks on both the eastbound and westbound structures, along with other essential rehabilitation efforts. According to a DOH statement, the project is a critical investment in the state’s aging infrastructure.

This contract represents one of several recently awarded by the DOH, signaling a broader commitment to improving roadways and bridges across West Virginia. Several other companies secured bids for various projects throughout the state.

Additional Projects Awarded This Week:

  • Perk Company Inc. secured a $284,371.05 contract for a culvert repair project on Cookman Fork along Interstate 79 in Roane County.
  • Perk Company Inc. also won a bid of $339,792 for an improvement project on the Hawks Nest Trail trestle in Fayette County.
  • R.K. Construction Inc. was awarded a $346,358.47 contract for a superstructure replacement, pavement repair, and guardrail project on the 17th Street Bridge in Wood County.
  • Triton Construction Inc. will undertake a bridge deck overlay project on the GM Access Road Bridge in Berkeley County for $279,500.
  • Marks Drilling received a $646,589.50 contract for a slide repair project on WV 152 in Wayne County.
  • Marks Drilling also secured a $250,713.50 bid for a slide repair project on Cherry Street in Lincoln County.
  • Marks Drilling was further awarded a $114,370 contract for a slide repair project on Sunnyside Drive, also in Wayne County.
  • West Virginia Paving Inc. will perform a micropile slide repair, resurfacing, and guardrail project on WV 161 in McDowell County for $449,630.
  • Marks Drilling Inc. won a $169,477 contract for a piling wall slide repair project on Bull Creek Road in Pleasants County.
  • Marks Drilling Inc. was also awarded a $122,388.50 contract for a slide repair project on Sand Creek Road in Lincoln County.
  • Brayman Construction Inc. was also the low bidder on the Oakvale Bridge rehabilitation project, with a bid of $10,693,066.17.

The widespread nature of these projects underscores the state’s proactive approach to infrastructure maintenance and repair. One analyst noted that these investments are crucial for supporting economic growth and ensuring public safety throughout West Virginia. The DOH anticipates these improvements will minimize disruptions to travel and enhance the overall quality of the state’s transportation network.
