Mercy work on board quashes judge’s order

Chennai: The Chennai High Court has quashed an order issued by the Chennai Drinking Water Drainage Board to grant clemency work. An employee of the Chennai Drinking Water Drainage Board, who worked for 18 years, died in 1994. He is survived by his wife and three children. Asking for mercy work, his wife Chintamani applied; No action.

The petition came up for hearing at a session of Justices S. Vaithiyanathan and N. Mala. It is not correct to say that there is discrimination in appointments, ”said K. Raja, counsel appearing for Chintamani.

Suspicion
Following the arguments of both parties, the order issued by the Judges: In the Board’s reply petition, the late applicants are mentioned. To refute it, the petition was not filed on behalf of Chintamani. If he had applied in 1998, he would have filed the relevant document and evidence. Claiming to have applied in 1998 raises suspicion. Must also meet the features stated in the law. In one case, the petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court, citing 18 years of late application. Therefore, the order of the separate judge is quashed.Thus the judges have ordered.
