‘Merkel spied by the US’, the report of the Danish services

by time news

Angela Merkel spied by the US. Some German, French, Norwegian and Swedish parliamentarians and officials have been spied on by the US National Security Agency (NSA) which between 2012 and 2014 intercepted telecommunications through Danish submarine cables. Among the people who would have been intercepted there would also be German Chancellor Angela Merkel but also former President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and former Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck. This is revealed by an investigation by the Danish public TV channel Dr to which ‘Le Monde’, the ‘Suddeutsche Zeitung’ and the German TV channels Ndr, Wdr, Swedish Svt and Norwegian Nrk have had access.

Dr, according to reports from the French newspaper, in addition to numerous sources had access in particular with a confidential report of 2015 of the Danish intelligence service (Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste, Fe).

According to the report, writes Le Monde, “the NSA exploited its partnership with Denmark to spy on allied countries, making Copenhagen complicit, at least for naivety, in its partner’s ambitions for surveillance”. The NSA, reports the newspaper, “did not comment”.
