A vehicle with license plate number 33 ATE 039, traveling from Tarsus to Mersin, struck a group of pedestrians waiting to cross at a pedestrian crossing on Gazi Mustafa kemal Boulevard at Bekirde Junction in the Akdeniz district.The accident occurred around 8:45 PM local time, as the car reportedly attempted to overtake a truck.
Emergency services – including police, health, and fire brigade teams – were dispatched to the scene promptly following the incident. Medical personnel confirmed two fatalities at the scene. Tragically, one of the injured individuals succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, bringing the total death toll to three. Three other injured individuals remain hospitalized and are receiving ongoing treatment.
The driver of the vehicle,identified as MK,a 25-year-old woman,was detained by authorities,and legal proceedings are underway.

Mersin Governor Atilla Toros and Provincial Police Chief İdris Yılmaz arrived at the scene to assess the situation and gather information. “We received notice of a traffic accident that occurred at Bekirde Junction in our Akdeniz district,” a senior official stated.”The accident took place in the middle median where our citizens were located by a vehicle trying to overtake a truck coming from the direction of Tarsus to Mersin. Two of our citizens died at the scene and one of them died in the hospital. I pray for God’s mercy for our deceased citizens.All three of our citizens are under treatment in our hospitals.”
Preliminary investigations suggest the car lost control while attempting the overtaking maneuver. Traffic flow was temporarily disrupted to allow emergency responders to work and secure the area. Victims Identified
Authorities have released the identities of those who lost their lives in the devastating crash. Zehra Serdil Atak (18) and Kübra Güney (15) were pronounced dead at the scene. Büşra Güney (15) tragically passed away after being transported to the hospital. The injured individuals have been identified as Burkan Acar (21), Yunus Bagi (35), and Necla Öztürk (15), and are currently receiving medical care.
