Meta will allow users to block messages sent by unknown accounts on WhatsApp, a protective measure against spam and scams that the company is currently working on and which will reach users in a future update of the service.

To enhance user protection, the tech company has incorporated various privacy tools, such as blocking contacts and temporary chats. The advanced options allow users to disable link previews shared in conversations and protect the IP address during calls.

Now, Meta is progressing on another advanced privacy tool, which, when activated, will block messages sent by unknown accounts, as shared by the specialized portal WABetainfo, although the function’s description clarifies that it will act “if they exceed a certain volume”.

In addition to improving user protection, this new feature is designed to enhance the app’s performance by reducing the presence of spam, scams, and other unwanted messages.

This is a feature currently in testing, which has been seen in the beta for Android (v2.24.17.24), and which will be available to users in an upcoming update of the messaging application.
