Meta Platformsthe company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, will start a new one next week wave of layoffs in the company, the third, since last March it announced its intention to do without 10,000 workers, after the cut of 11,000 positions at the end of last year.

This new round is nothing more than the continuation of the plan revealed last March and in which Meta announced a workforce adjustment that will mean the dismissal of around 10,000 workers, as well as the closing of nearly 5,000 vacant positions yet without covering

“It is a time of great anxiety and uncertainty,” explained Meta’s president for global affairs, Nick Clegg. “I wish it was simple to provide comfort and relief. There is uncertainty, and because of that, I have greater admiration for all the people who continue to be resilient and professional despite this lack of certainty,” he added.

Two months ago, the company’s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that Meta planned to announce restructuring and layoffs in its technology groups in late April and then in its business groups in late May, as is the case. These efforts are part of what Zuckerberg called “the year of efficiency”.

However, he has warned that, in some cases, it could take until the end of the year to complete the changes, while the timeline for affected international teams may also vary.
