Meta Platforms, the company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, will start a new wave of layoffs in the company, the third, since last March it announced its intention to do without 10,000 workers, after cutting 11,000 positions at the end of last year.

This new round is nothing more than the continuation of the plan revealed last March and in which Meta announced a staff adjustment that will mean the dismissal of some 10,000 workersas well as the closure of around 5,000 vacancies still not covered.

“This is a time of great anxiety and uncertainty,” explained the president of Meta for global affairs, Nick Clegg. “I wish it were easy to provide comfort and relief. There is uncertainty, and for that, I have greater admiration for all the people who continue to be resilient and professional despite this uncertainty,” he added.

Two months ago, the founder and CEO of the company, Mark Zuckerberg, indicated that Meta planned to announce restructuring and layoffs in its technology groups at the end of April and, subsequently, in its business groups at the end of May, as is the case . These efforts are part of what Zuckerberg called the “year of efficiency“.

However, he warned that in some cases it could take until the end of the year to complete the changes, while the timeline for affected international teams may also vary.
