Think about being able to fish under your living room floor or play chess with your friend’s avatar sitting in the dining room. This type of experience is what the company Meta (formerly Facebook) plans to do with Project Cambria, its virtual reality glasses that may start selling later this year.
This shows that Meta’s commitment is serious and that he is advancing by leaps and bounds to materialize his idea of the metaverse, that virtual social world where you can experience things that happen in reality. All from different technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, 5G connectivity, blockchain, among others.
With the help of Alexander Rojas, MediaTek business development manager for Colombia and Central America; Diana Guerrero, director of Fedesoft’s Cenisoft innovation center; and Juan Manuel Escobar, president of the Association of Virtual and Augmented Reality in Colombia, we created the following glossary with key terms to better understand the metaverse.
