Météo-France lifts orange “storm” vigilance, the Alpes-Maritimes remain on heat wave alert

The orange “storms” vigilance which concerned ten departments in the center-east of France was lifted by Météo-France, in the bulletin published on Sunday July 16 shortly after midnight.

The departments which were on alert on Saturday were Haute-Saône, Doubs, Côte-d’Or, Jura, Saône-et-Loire, Ain, Rhône, Loire, Haute-Loire and Puy -de-Dome. The Meteorological Institute reports a “return to a calmer time”, as expected. Twenty departments are on yellow alert for thunderstorms in the East and Center-East.

“Strong intensities of rain, hailstorms and heavy gusts were observed locally” Saturday, specifies Météo-France. Winds of 110 km / h were thus recorded in Lons-le-Saunier, capital of the Jura, as well as 93 km / h in Puy-en-Velay, the prefecture of (Haute-Loire.

Persistence of the heat wave in the South-East

The Alpes-Maritimes department is kept on orange “heat wave” vigilance due to very marked heat. Météo-France notes that this heatwave episode is “not exceptional for the season”more sa “Persistence requires special vigilance, especially for sensitive or exposed people”.

In this area of ​​the south-east of the country, “maximum temperatures will remain at a high level” : from 30°C to 32°C on the coast, and from 32°C to 36°C inland.
