Météo-France placed, on Saturday June 4, sixty metropolitan departments on orange alert, due to a “very strong thunderstorm activity this afternoon and this evening”. The vast area concerned extends from the coasts of the English Channel to the northeast and to the southwest of the country.
Risk of hail in the South-West and the Massif Central
According to the national vigilance bulletin of the weather forecasting organization, “After a lull this morning, sometimes violent thunderstorms will develop over the Pays de Loire, Normandy, Ile-de-France, the Massif Central and the south-west of the country. They will reach the Centre, Burgundy, Lorraine, Champagne and Picardy in the evening”.
These storms will be accompanied by intense rains – Météo-France evokes “locally 40 mm to 60 mm in a short time”. Violent gusts of wind and hail are also expected, with a risk of large hail more particularly in the South-West and the Massif Central.
