In 2021, meteorologists are to submit an updated climatic description of the whole of Russia. This was stated by the leading specialist of the weather center “Phobos” Mikhail Leus.

According to him, the indicators characteristic for each region – the average temperature, the amount of precipitation and their intensity, as well as other climatic data – are calculated on the basis of observations of meteorologists and climatologists for 30 years. This data is expected to be updated this year.

“Until now, we have used the“ old ”climate, lived according to the data from 1961 to 1991, and this year we will start using the“ new ”climate,” the specialist said in an interview with Sputnik radio. He noted that Roshydromet has not yet approved and published the new characteristics.

Leus explained how the climate is changing using the example of Moscow. According to the “old” climate, in August the capital had 10 rainy days, 77 millimeters of precipitation and an average temperature of 16.4 degrees. Under the “new” climate, the rains became a little more – 78 millimeters, and the number of days with precipitation increased to 15. “That is, it should rain every second day – this is a noticeable increase,” the meteorologist said. He also added that the average air temperature in August in Moscow is now 17.6 degrees.
