Meteorology warns of floods across the country during the fall

The National Center of Meteorology issued an “urgent warning of the risk of potential floods and torrents across the country during the upcoming fall season, as all regions were classified as “yellow” on the early warning map.”

The center warned that “these natural phenomena may lead to huge losses,” calling on “citizens and concerned authorities to take all necessary precautionary measures and cooperate with the competent authorities to limit their effects, noting that the percentage of expectation ranges between 50 and 60 percent, with all valleys and dams in the country expected to witness a potential risk of flooding.”

The Meteorological Department expected “heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms in the southwestern regions of Libya during the first days of September, and it is likely that these rains will extend to the Gulf and Jufra regions, with a special focus on the Qatrun region and its surroundings on September 6,” according to the WAL agency.

According to the center, “This storm may cause unprecedented floods and torrential rains in the region, which requires urgent precautionary measures, and calls on the relevant concerned authorities to raise the level of preparedness to confront these harsh weather conditions, and work to protect lives and property.”

According to the National Center of Meteorology bulletin for September 5, 2024, “Thunderclouds will multiply from time to time in some areas (southwest and northwest), accompanied by good rains, which caused local valleys to flow, and temperatures are high in the northwestern regions.”

In the areas of “Ras Ajdir to Sirte – Al-Jafara Plain – Nafusa Mountain”, thunderclouds will multiply in the evening today and tomorrow (some areas of the mountain and Al-Qaryat – Tarhuna – Maslata – Mazdah – Bin Walid – some areas of the far coast), interspersed with scattered rains that will be good to heavy at times, causing some local valleys to flow, and the winds will be southeasterly to southwesterly, moderate in speed, active in the evening in some areas, and temperatures will range between (36-40) degrees and will record a slight decline tomorrow.”

In the Gulf and Benghazi Plain until Amsaid, the sky will be partly cloudy, increasing on Saturday evening, and the winds will be north to northwest, with speeds between light and moderate, and maximum temperatures will range between (30-36)°C.

In “Al-Jufra – Sabha – Ghat – Ghadames – Al-Hamada”, thunderclouds multiply from time to time, especially today in the areas of (Ghat – Al-Barakat – Tahala – Al-Uwaynat – Ghadames – Al-Hamada – Al-Jufra – Sabha and its surroundings – South of Qatrun) with scattered rains, and it is good in some of these areas, which caused some local valleys to flow, and the winds are southeasterly to variable in direction, their speed is between light and moderate, and they are active due to the thunderclouds, and the maximum temperatures: range between (38-41)°C.

In “Al Wahat – Al Sarir – Tazerbo – Al Kufra”, the sky is clear to partly cloudy, increasing from time to time, especially in (the border areas – Jabal Al Uwaynat), and the winds are northeasterly to northwesterly, light to moderate in speed, and temperatures range between (37-40)°C.
