Methanol blended petrol has been introduced to the public for the first time
15% methanol blended petrol to be sold at Indian Oil Punks in Tinsukia, Assam. The pilot initiative was initiated by Petroleum Minister Rameshwar Teli, Indian Oil Chairman SM Vaidya and Finance Commission Chairman VK Saraswat. `By mixing methanol with petrol, the rise in petrol prices can be curbed to some extent. It will also significantly reduce crude oil imports, ”said Minister Rameshwar Teli.
It is noteworthy that methanol fuels are already being used extensively in countries including China, Japan and the United States. Earlier, on the eve of World Environment Day in June last year, Prime Minister Modi held a video conference with some farmers. He said, “By 2025, 20% ethanol blend is possible in petrol.” The current initiative is seen as the first step towards that.
