The Community of Madrid will start the June 24 modernization works on Metro line 1, between the Sol and Valdecarros stations, with the aim of reopening the service in October. During this period, a free bus service will be offered as an alternative, operated by the Municipal Transport Company, which will cover the affected section of more than 22 kilometers.
It will be provided information about available options and the frequency of the buses will vary according to the time slot and the influx of passengers.
Las modernization works began on April 3 and will be carried out in several phases. In the first phase, the track was prepared and it was carried out at night so as not to interrupt the normal operation of the metro. The second phase will require the interruption of the service, and in the last phase, which will last approximately three months, night closing hours will be used to finish the work.
Ehe free alternative bus service will follow a specific route that will start from Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona and will travel through various streets and avenues until it reaches Avenida del Ensanche de Vallecas. The return itinerary will follow a similar route. The service will be supervised by the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium through the Comprehensive Center for Public Transport Management and Innovation, and decisions will be made in real time as necessary.
The works will allow improve line performance 1 Subway, reduce travel times, implement more advanced technologies to increase reliability and optimize maintenance costs. The ballast and wooden sleepers will be replaced by a concrete platform, high-tech devices will be incorporated to manage the crossing and branching of the tracks, and drainage and maintenance of the track will be improved to reduce noise and vibrations.
In addition, there will be renovation work on the airline’s facilities and signaling system, and the removal of asbestos will be carried out. These interventions are part of a comprehensive plan for the renovation and improvement of line 1 of the Madrid metro.
