Dhaka Mass Transit Workers Demand Reforms

On ‌Thursday (August 8), over⁢ 700 employees of ⁣Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) in ⁤Dhaka, Bangladesh, staged a human chain to demand ​several reforms. Their demands ‍include:

1. Pay Equity:

  • Abolition of the discriminatory pay⁤ structure that pays lower grades more than higher grades.
  • Implementation of a uniform pay structure based on the National Pay Scale-2015, with arrears from the date of joining.

2. Benefits ‌and Allowances:

  • Payment of CPF benefits with ⁣dues from the date ‌of joining.
  • Timely provision of all⁣ allowances, ⁢including promotion allowances.

3. Transparency and Governance:

  • Establishment of clear and ‌timely service rules in line with other government agencies ⁣and international practices.
  • Regularization ⁣of apprentices at the⁢ date of joining, like other government organizations.

4. Security ⁢and Transport:

  • Adequate security and transport facilities at ⁣all work locations, including pensions and depots.

5. Respectful Workplace:

  • Elimination of authoritarianism, discrimination, and verbal ⁣abuse in the workplace.

Additional Demands:

  • Permanent employment‌ for workers after two years ⁢of satisfactory service.
  • Adequate security and⁣ transport facilities ‌at ⁤stations and depots.

The employees claim that despite repeated requests, the DMTCL authorities have failed to‌ address their ⁤concerns and ⁣implement these reforms. They are demanding action from the government to​ ensure ⁤fair treatment and ‌a better work environment for all employees.
