New York City, Dec. 27, 2025 – New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is facing scrutiny, but this time it’s not about his performance on the field. Reports suggest political disagreements may have fractured his relationship with former teammate Brandon Nimmo.
Political Divide in the Clubhouse?
The alleged rift between Lindor and Nimmo stems from differing political views, specifically regarding former President Donald Trump.
- WFAN radio personality Mike Francesa first reported the tension between Lindor and Nimmo.
- The disagreement reportedly centers on differing views of former President Trump.
- Lindor’s wife, Katia Reguero Lindor, is publicly active in political causes.
- Social media reaction to the reports has been largely negative toward Lindor.
Lindor, a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, signed a 10-year, $341 million contract extension with the Mets in 2021. He proved a key player in the team’s 2024 playoff run, batting .273 with 33 home runs and 91 RBIs. However, recent headlines have focused on off-field matters.
Earlier this month, WFAN’s Mike Francesa claimed the tension between Lindor and Nimmo originated with political differences. “The Nimmo-Lindor thing, my understanding, was political. Had to do with Trump. One side liked Trump, one side didn’t like Trump,” Francesa said. “So, Trump splitting up the Mets between Nimmo and Lindor. That’s my understanding, that it started over Trump, as crazy as that sounds.”

Lindor has not publicly responded to Francesa’s report, but the story gained traction over the weekend. Adding another layer to the situation, Lindor’s wife, Katia Reguero Lindor, is openly engaged in political advocacy.
She recently voiced her support for Zohran Mamdani, stating, “Supporting politicians who fight for immigrants, artists, workers, and everyone who deserves a dignified life – isn’t against my interests, even if I’m in a different economic position,” according to the New York Post. She added, “P.S. Your enemies aren’t the immigrants- they’re the one-percenters hoarding the wealth while leaving you without basic needs.”
It has also been reported that Katia Reguero Lindor is now part of Mamdani’s inaugural committee, though she has not yet commented on this role. Mamdani stated, “I’m honored to be joined by some of the most creative and experienced minds in the city as we build an inauguration that is truly by and for New Yorkers.”
Fan Reaction and Future Outlook
The reports have sparked a negative reaction from some Mets fans on social media. “Mets should have kept Alonso and traded Lindor,” one fan suggested. Another declared, “Lindor jersey sales just tanked.” Others expressed outright dissatisfaction, with comments like “Officially done with the NY Mets” and “I hope the Mets trade this guy. Locker room problem.” One fan simply wrote, “Get Lindor off my team.”
Whether Lindor will address the political speculation remains to be seen, but the issue looms as the team prepares for Opening Day 2026.
