Princess Märtha Louise welcomed her wedding guests to a party beforehand. However, Mette-Marit surprisingly appeared wearing a mask.

The three-day wedding celebrations of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett are in full swing. The princess and the shaman will not officially marry until Saturday, August 31st, but the party started on Thursday. The bride and groom had invited guests to the wedding reception at the Hotel 1904, which is located in the middle of the picturesque fjords of Norway, under the motto “Sexy and Cool”.

On Friday afternoon, the couple invited everyone to a boat party. The trip took 350 guests from Alesund to Geiranger, as “Hello” reports, who were allowed to accompany the wedding exclusively.

Among the guests are Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit and their children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus. The family chose noticeably casual outfits for the boat trip: Mette-Marit wore a cream-colored knitted sweater with a zip-up collar, yellow trousers, sneakers and a large tartan bag. The Crown Prince also looked less formal in jeans, a sweater and light blue sneakers.

But it wasn’t just Mette-Marit’s clothing that was unusual. The royal also appeared at the ceremony wearing a face mask. When asked by a reporter on site, she reportedly gave no reason for wearing the mask. As the magazine “Gala” reports, Norwegian royal expert Tove Taalesen suspects that the princess has a chronic lung disease and is at risk of infection with pathogens. According to Taalesen, it could also be a tactic by the princess to reduce the value of the photos she has taken.

In addition to Mette-Marit and her family, other royals took part in Princess Märtha Louise’s celebrations, such as Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel, as well as Victoria’s brother Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia.

The actual wedding will take place on August 31st at the Hotel Union against the backdrop of the Geirangerfjord. Märtha Louise’s parents, King Harald V and Queen Sonja, will also be there. Before that, there will be a party at the wedding location on Friday evening, with a Latin American theme.

It is the second marriage for the older sister of Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon. From 2002 to 2017 she was married to the writer Ari Behn, and their marriage produced three daughters, Maud, Leah and Emma. She has been officially together with the American Durek Verrett since 2018, and the couple have been engaged since 2022.

“I had decided not to get married again. But after I met Durek in 2018, I changed my mind,” the bride said in a “Hello” interview before the wedding. “For me, marriage seals the closeness between us. It’s a way to increase the energy and enter a new phase of our relationship.” For Durek, marriage is “a very spiritual thing,” as he told the magazine.

The public is critical of the wedding. The couple has made many negative headlines in the past. The fact that they sold the image rights to their wedding exclusively to non-public media also caused unrest in the royal family. Crown Prince Haakon then announced that the royal family would attend the wedding but would not be available for exclusive photos.
