Mettur Thermal Power Station 2nd Boiler Repair: Power outage

Salem: 600 MW power generation at the second section of the Mettur Thermal Power Station has been halted due to boiler pipe repairs.

There are two units operating at the Mettur Thermal Power Station in Salem District. The first section has four units of 210 MW each and the second section has one unit with a capacity of 600 MW.

Units 2, 3 and 4 of the Mettur Thermal Power Station were shut down due to shortage of coal. Only one unit is operated. In this condition the power supply was immediately stopped as the boiler pipe in the second unit suddenly broke yesterday.

The fourth unit operated yesterday morning in the first division. Only one and four units generate 175 MW each. The 600 MW unit in the second section was completely shut down.

It is noteworthy that the stock of coal has increased to 23 thousand tons as the stock of coal was brought by freight train yesterday as there were only 7000 tons of coal in stock yesterday.
