The celebrations in Spain for the 532 years of the origin of Hispanicity will begin in Madridon October 1 with the colloquium Intersections: Cultural Heritage and Current Architecture in Mexico.
The architect Carlos Ruiz Chavezpresident of Monumentala non-profit civil association, whose primary objective is the dissemination of the cultural heritage of Mexico internationallysaid that in the Spanish capital they will exhibit the past and present of our architecture to spread knowledge of the wealth of built heritage, with its buildings, landscapes and monuments, “which must earn their livelihood for their conservation,” he said at a conference press.
One of the most important and best-known exponents in Mexico is Luis Barragán, not only Pritzker Prize –which is like the Nobel Prize in architecture– since his House, from 1947, is one of the most emblematic in terms of architecture in Mexico at an international level, which is why it will be a key piece of this presentation in Madrid.
“The purpose of Monumental is to celebrate this first colloquium that we do in agreement with the Official College of Architects of Madrid, which will take place in the House of Mexico in Spain, to disseminate the buildings, traditions and, of course, the sites and monuments, since they are the best that our country can export in its cultural heritage,” added Ruiz Chávez.
BARRAGÁN HOUSE, OF UNIVERSAL VALUE
Guillermo Eguiarte Bendimexdirector of the Casa Luis Barragán, emphasized that it was 20 years ago when this emblematic site of Mexico City received the declaration as World Heritage by UNESCO.
“The importance of this anniversary is that it is the first modern monument of the 20th century on the American continent to receive this heritage distinction, which is important, since it is seen that modern architecture can be.
“The Barragan House, It has an exceptional universal value, which is why it received this declaration, it is because of this transmission of values, which many ancestral cultures share, which are points of contact that are sometimes intangible in some way when foreign visitors go to this monument, these principles assimilates them and they are attracted to what is inside,” he added. For the house that bears his name, the architect Luis Barragan managed to articulate an internal discourse by bringing together works of North America, South America, Asia, Europe and even sculptures from Oceania, that generate a perfectly well-armed speech.
