With a decree signed by the president Andrés Manuel López Obradorthe Government of Mexico imposed 20% tariffs on the entry of individual capsules of 40 grams or smaller capacity.
The document was published in the Official Journal of the Federationwhich means that it comes into force as of this Tuesday, April 23.
It is detailed that there will be a modification from 0 to 20% of taxes on imported capsules through the modification to the Rate of the General Import Tax Law and Export.
This tax seeks to support the national coffee industry, boost its productive capacity at medium and long term and grow employment and investment in the sector, the decree stated.
Mexico explained that the climate change world slowed down the logistics supply chain in the coffee capsule sector during 2022, which caused delays in the entry of roasted and ground coffee in individual 40-gram containers, stopping a decrease in its availability, which is why they had opened the quotas.
