Mexico City dresses up with 35 artistic murals in honor of Mexico’s Olympic athletes

Within the framework of actions for beautify public spaces and promote sportthe Secretariat of Public Works and Services (SOBSE) of Mexico City, through the General Directorate of Urban Services and Sustainability, has created 35 artistic murals in Periférico Norte.

These works of art pay tribute to the Mexican athletes who will participate in the XXXII edition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11.

The murals, which cover an area of ​​almost 4,000 square meters, were created by 40 urban artists in collaboration with 60 Urban Services workers.

The works are located under the bridges of Periférico Norte, at the intersections with Calzada Legaria, Avenida Ejército Nacional and Conscripto, in the Miguel Hidalgo Municipality.

A journey through the diversity of sport

The artistic pieces capture the essence and diversity of the Olympic disciplines, capturing in vibrant colors the passion, effort and dedication of the athletes who will represent Mexico in the most important sporting event.

The murals take us on a journey through the faces and stories of athletes classified in disciplines such as athletics, boxing, slalom canoeing, mountain biking, track cycling, road cycling, diving, fencing, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming, artistic swimming, open water swimming, modern pentathlon, rowing, show jumping, surfing, taekwondo, table tennis, archery, sport shooting, triathlon and sailing.

This artistic intervention not only pays tribute to Mexican athletes, but also turns the urban landscape into an open-air gallery of art and culture.

The murals, which join the 1,570 created during the current administration, underline the ongoing commitment of the Mexico City Government to the beautification of public spaces and the promotion of pride and identity in the city and our country.

A call for unity and support for our athletes

With this initiative, SOBSE seeks to generate an atmosphere of unity and support for Mexican athletes who will compete in Paris 2024.

The murals invite us to reflect on the importance of sport as a tool for individual and social development, and to celebrate the talent and dedication of those who will represent us on the Olympic stage.
