A total of 113 people migrantsfrom 13 countries in Latin America and Asia who were deprived of their liberty in a house in the city of San Luis Río Colorado, near the border of Mexico con USAwere located this Saturday (05.06.2023), according to state authorities.
In addition, five people were arrested at the scene for their probable responsibility in the crimes of illegal deprivation of freedom and extortion to the detriment of migrants and their families.
In a statement, the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office reported that, as a result of the investigation into the kidnapping of 10 members of a family of migrants from Colombia – denounced on May 5 – security and ministerial agencies managed to locate the 113 migrant people.
Among the kidnapped people were girls, boys, women and men from countries such as Brazil (12), Colombia (12), Cuba (8), Dominican Republic (4), El Salvador (11), Ecuador (29), Honduras (7 ) and Peru (12). In addition, migrants from Afghanistan (7), Bangladesh (1), the United States (2), India (6) and Nepal (2).
Anti-kidnapping agents from the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency (AMIC) and the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), the National Guard, the State Public Security Police (PESP) and the San Luis Municipal Police participated in the operation, who carried out the location of the place of captivity and the discovery of people.
The Prosecutor’s Office reported that the victims, upon seeing the presence of police, military and National Guard agents, were happy and applauded their intervention, as well as praying religious prayers.
