The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday presented the ICC Development Awards to six nations. They are recognized by the ICC for spreading cricket to partner countries.

The six countries are Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Mexico, Oman and Scotland. Countries received awards in six different categories. This award was given to six countries out of 21 countries.

Among them, Mexico won the best award this year. They sent a team to the Street Child World Cup in India. With their own initiative, they organized cricket games as part of the rehabilitation of prisoners in prisons in Mexico City. Mexico received the award in the ‘ICC Development Initiative of the Year’ category for the organization. Mexico Cricket chairman Ben Owen sees the achievement as a huge honour, an ICC press release said.

Oman won the ‘Hundred Percent Female Cricket Initiative of the Year’ award. Oman has been recognized for its initiative to identify, nurture, skill upskill and empower women through the ‘Cricket for Her’ project.

The ‘Men’s Performance of the Year’ award went to the Netherlands. The Netherlands qualified for the 2023 ODI World Cup after defeating West Indies and Scotland in the qualifiers. Then they beat South Africa and Bangladesh on the World Cup stage.

The ‘Women’s Performance of the Year’ was won by the United Arab Emirates. Nepal won the ‘ICC Digital Fan Engagement Initiative of the Year’ award. Nepal stands out in the cricket craze because of the gallery filled grounds.

Scotland received the ‘Cricket for Good Social Impact Initiative’ award. Scotland Cricket is working with an organization called ‘Beyond Boundaries’. Those who work with young, underprivileged and neglected people. Besides, it has been conducting free community sessions.
