He explained that at the end of July 2024, green chili production amounted to one million 244 thousand tons and in the first half of the year, 952,975 tons of onions, 1,563,000 tons of tomatoes and 601,438 tons of nopales were produced.

In Mexico, He added that more than 40 varieties of chili are harvested and among them are the jalapeño, poblano, habanero, chiltepín, bell pepper and guajillo, which are essential in the dishes of the Mexican cuisine, he pointed out.

He pointed out that the jalapeño pepper is the most produced, totaling 909,225 tons in 2023, and is characterized by its moderate spiciness and versatility of consumption.

The Ministry of Agriculture reported that last year the poblano chile, the main ingredient for the preparation of traditional chiles en nogada, registered a production of 480 thousand 937 tons.

Almost all varieties of green chile are available throughout the year. During celebrations, such as those in September, consumption increases, since they are often used with dishes such as chiles stuffed with pork, beef, chicken and cheese; rajas with cream; sauces and raw or roasted in soups or broths.
