In any society, health is a fundamental issue and in Mexico there was no exception. Public hospitals have health personnel dedicated to their patients, although it is true that one of the main problems is the lack of specialist doctors.
The controversy on this issue has been raging since José Narro, former head of the Ministry of Health, stated that Mexico had “a saturation of general doctors but lacked specialists.” What he did with this statement was to think that young people were not interested in specializing.
Every year, thousands of young people take the ENARM
But this is not what reflects reality, since every year, thousands of young people take the ENARM, although many of the young people obtain a high score but do not get a place, due to the lack of available places.
So the problem of lack of specialist doctors in Mexico requires that the places available in the ENARM be increased. Furthermore, it would be necessary build more hospitals and improve existing facilities to provide quality care to patients.
Young people are not to blame for the lack of specialist doctors in the country
Likewise, the doctors current ones can contribute to solving the problem. To do this, they can encourage the interest of Medicine students in the different specialties and provide them with guidance on the different options available to them. This can be of great help to increase the number of specialist doctors in the country.
What could be determined is that the lack of specialist doctors is a real problem in Mexico, but young people are not to blame. On the part of the new generations, there is great interest in becoming specialist doctors, although it is true that number of places available is totally insufficient. Therefore, it is essential that appropriate measures be taken to solve this problem, since the health of Mexicans is a priority.
