The current president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), asked the United States government to prevent the return to Aztec land of migrants deported from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti and Nicaragua.

“We are seeking to reach an agreement that if they decide to deport them, they do it directly, and we are seeking to reach that agreement. They arrive in Mexico and then, we have no problem, we treat them all very well, but why triangulate? Why not a direct agreement?” said the president.

After Biden officially announced the closure of his borders and would deny asylum requests to those who enter his country illegally, claiming, likewise, that those migrants from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti would be returned to Mexico if they did not enter through established legal programs and those from other countries would be repatriated on direct flights, AMLO requests this agreement with the US government, so that the Aztec nation stops being an intermediate point.

Just this Tuesday, the White House announced the executive order, which requires changes to the way the border operates and affects many migrants who are still in the process of reaching the United States.

Cubans, specifically, who do not arrive with an appointment CBP Onewill be immediately returned to Mexico.

The border will also be closed when more than 2,500 arrests are recorded daily for an average of seven days, regardless of the thousands of stranded and undocumented immigrants in Mexican territory.
