Mexico to review Camino Rojo mine case with USMCA

Our country admitted the request for review filed by USA in it case of the Red Road Minethrough the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism of the Mexico-United States-Canada Free Trade Agreement (T-MEC).

According to Annex 31-A of the trade section, the case will be reviewed, explained the Ministry of Economy, which has already informed the Office of the United States Trade Representative that the review is accepted.

This admission was resolved on August 20, regarding a possible denial of rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining at the Camino Rojo mine in Zacatecas.

The Ministry of Labor will conduct an internal review within 45 days from the date the application was received to determine whether there is a denial of rights at the mine.

Meanwhile, the Government of Mexico reiterated its commitment to effectively implement labor legislation, as well as the provisions on the matter established in the T-MEC, thereby guaranteeing compliance and protection of the collective rights of the country’s workers.
