A delegation of Mexican engineers and specialists in railway systems will participate in the InnoTrans 2024 fair in Berlin, the most important event in the world in mobility and railway transport.
The delegation will highlight the progress Mexico has made in developing its cargo and passenger systems.
Mexico: Explosion of railway development David Camacho Alcocer, president of the Railway Projects Commission of the National Council for Urban Development (Conared) of Mexico, stressed that the country is experiencing a true explosion of railway development that is transforming the connectivity and development of various regions. This boost not only facilitates mobility, but also opens the door to the return of passenger trains, a project that is expected to be completed in the short term.
In an interview with 24 HORAS, Camacho Alcocer explained that InnoTrans will showcase the progress made in the last six years, presenting a comprehensive approach based on the collaboration of the private sector, the government, civil organizations, academia and international cooperation. This “five-helix” model has been key for Mexico to be able to show its progress in large-scale railway projects.
High-level Mexican experience at InnoTrans Camacho highlighted the participation of the Mexico-Germany Railway Cluster, which brings together doctors, engineers and analysts from the sector. This group of high-level experts, who develop cutting-edge research and participate in railway projects in Europe and other parts of the world, will represent Mexico at the fair. In addition, the Ministry of National Defense will exhibit its participation in the Maya Train project, while the Ministry of the Navy will highlight its collaboration in the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
The group of Mexican companies and specialists is capable of executing railway projects in all their phases: from planning and design, to construction, operation and maintenance. With a consolidated track record in emblematic projects, this team remains ready to contribute its experience to the projects that will be developed under the next administration.
Vision for the future of the railway sector Camacho Alcocer also highlighted that, within the cluster, doctoral students from the University of Stuttgart and Berlin are carrying out advanced research in areas such as modal split, maintenance and optimisation of railway tracks.
These efforts are aimed at strengthening the infrastructure vision of the next government, led by Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum. According to the expert, the new administration will prioritize the development of modern, sustainable and efficient railway systems, as described in the “100 Steps for Transformation” document.
Finally, Camacho welcomed the fact that more opportunities are opening up for Mexican companies to lead these strategic projects, breaking with the dependence on foreign companies that predominated in the past. “The projects will maintain a vision aligned with the development of the country, with the Mexican workforce contributing not only its experience, but also a deep commitment to the well-being of Mexico,” he concluded.
InnoTrans 2024 will be held in Berlin, Germany, from September 24 to 27, and will attract participation from countries around the world.
