They were traveling clandestinely aboard a truck. At least ten migrants died and 25 others were injured on Sunday when the vehicle overturned on a highway in the state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, on the border with Guatemala, according to a still provisional report transmitted by local authorities.
A source from the prosecutor’s office, who asked not to be identified, indicated that the victims were women, including a minor, from Cuba.
The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on the stretch of highway that connects Pijijiapan to Tonalá, on the Pacific coast of Chiapas state, from where many migrants seek to reach the United States.
Two accidents in less than a week
This is the second accident of this type in less than a week. Two migrants were killed and 27 others were injured Thursday when the truck carrying them overturned in the same state.
