During the inauguration of the Congress of the Association of Private Hospitals Marcelo Ebrard stated that his dream is for Mexico to have the best health system in America.
Although the presidential contest has not yet begun, some politicians have already started their campaigns.
Some detractors claim that his promise is similar to that of AMLO and the Nordic-style health system.

There is still a year to go until the 2024 presidential election and although the process has not officially started, some people have already gone ahead. Among those who have already started their pre-campaigns is Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, who aspires to be the official candidate of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena). Although today he was in the news for stating that Mexico will have the best health system in America.

The statement was given because he attended the inauguration of the Congress of the Association of Private Hospitals. At the event, he took the opportunity to talk about his plans for the future and the proposals with which he plans to be the next president of Mexico.

With this in mind, the most controversial point of his talk was when he said that from 2024 Mexico will have the best health system in America. The only condition he put is that he must be at the head of the country for his promise to come true.

For his part, he did not explain in detail how he plans to accomplish this feat. Although what he did mention was that the country must face two complex challenges similar to Covid-19. The first is the expansion of medical coverage to make it universal. In addition, doctors must have state-of-the-art technology to provide care to patients.

“The experience we had in 2020 and 2021 must not be lost sight of. It’s an important lesson we learned. We could greatly improve everything we do in the country if we keep that up.”

The presidential campaigns have not started yet.

However, from his statement a strong controversy has been generated for various reasons. The first is because it is accused that Ebrard violated the law for the second time because the presidential campaign authorized by the government has not yet begun. National Electoral Institute (INE).

Due to the above, the political class still cannot ask the citizens to vote or make campaign promises. In fact, just a couple of days ago, Ebrard himself affirmed his intention to create the Secretariat of the Fourth Transformation to give continuity to the movement that began in 2018.

A recycled promise from AMLO?

At the same time, there are detractors who indicate that the promise to improve the health system in Mexico has been made in recent years and at no time has progress been seen.

It is only enough to remember that one of the The greatest promises of Andrés Manuel López Obrador is that Mexico will have a health system like Denmark’s. By this, he means that care and medicines will be free for the entire population. To meet this goal, the Health Institute for Well-being (Insabi) was first created, but due to its null results it was eliminated and its place will now be taken by the IMSS Well-being.

While beyond patient care, working conditions for health workers also matter. To date, hospitals are reported to be in poor condition and precarious equipment. In addition, the number of personnel is insufficient and thus a vicious circle is generated that affects everyone.
