MG electric models contain batteries with 0% degradation. This is shown by the latest tests carried out by the company, which measure the levels of durability and safety. In the latest test held in Spain last December, a rigorous SOH (State of Health) analysis was performed on the ZS EV model after the first 35,000 kilometers of intensive use and after the battery was subjected to all types of charging: ultra-fast, fast and slow.

The result, the company says, is excellent, as the battery has not suffered the slightest deterioration. It retains 100% of its rated capacity and all of its components are in perfect condition after being thoroughly tested.

The batteries used by MG are designed to offer up to 5000 charge cycles, which means exceeding one million kilometers of mileage!. The Chinese-English brand also claims to have one of the best battery technologies on the market for two reasons. On the one hand, it benefits from the experience of its parent company SAIC Motor, which has been producing and developing electric vehicles for more than a decade. On the other hand, it works closely with CATL, which is number one in the world in car batteries.

MG explains that in 2017, SAIC Motor and CATL established a joint factory to produce the highest quality batteries, with a production capacity of 36 GWh. This facility covers all battery manufacturing processes: cells, modules, control and management system, integrated systems and recycling.

MG adds that its ZS EV crossover has been updated with new batteries with two capacities: one with 50.3 kWh, which gives this model a range of 320 kilometers (WLTP), and the other with 69.9 kWh, which allows an electric range of ZS EV up to 440 km (WLTP). New batteries made with large modular cell packs (with 120 cells for 50.3 KWh and 96 cells for 69.9 KWh) improve energy density by 34%. Their weight is 412 kilograms with a capacity of 50.3 kWh and 396.9 kilograms with a capacity of 69.9 kWh, and this is due to the different chemistry of the cells in each of them.
