This weekend Creed III, the third installment of the Rocky spin off, was released in theaters… and the first film in the saga in which Rocky does not actually appear. Adonis Creed will be the absolute protagonist, continuing the legacy of the legendary Philadelphia boxer who will not appear in the new installment of the franchise. Michael B. Jordan -interpreter of Adonis-, has come to the fore to explain the reasons for this striking absence.

“First of all, Sly and Rocky’s DNA is in the entire franchise,” Jordan begins by explaining. “You can’t have these movies without it. That underdog spirit is in all of us, I think what we love about these movies is seeing someone overcome difficulties, who is able to rise from the ashes and reach the peak of a mountain, and we connect with it. We connect with characters who do the same thing, and that’s what we want to achieve with Adonis Creed.”

“The first movie was very Rocky and Apollo,” Jordan continues. “The second one was about Adonis trying to overcome Apollo’s shadow, and be comfortable in his own skin.” According to him, after defeating Viktor Drago -son of Ivan, who killed Apollo in Rocky IV-, Jordan and Ryan Coogler -director-, they were clear that the saga should remain “on the shoulders of Adonis”.
