Michael Jackson’s brother, ‘Jackson Five’ member Tito Jackson, dies of heart attack

Tito Jackson, original member of the legendary American boy band ‘The Jackson 5’ and older brother of world-famous pop star Michael Jackson, has passed away at the age of 70.

According to AFP and other sources on the 16th, American guitarist and singer Tito Jackson passed away the previous day (the 15th) local time, according to his son.

Tito reportedly died of a heart attack the day before while driving from New Mexico to his home in Oklahoma.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father Tito Jackson is no longer with us,” Tito’s son wrote on Instagram, posting a photo and caption with his father.

“We are shocked and saddened,” the children said. “Our father was a man who cared about everyone and their well-being,” they added. “We remember the words he always taught us: ‘Love one another.’”

Tito formed a family group called the Jackson Five with his brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael. They gained worldwide popularity in the 1960s and 1970s with songs such as “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There.”

Tito was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 along with his Jackson 5 brothers.

His younger brother Michael, who became a solo superstar, died in 2009 at the age of 50.

Tito recently toured Germany, England and California with Marlon and Jackie as The Jacksons.

He is survived by three sons. His wife died in 1994.
