Even at the age of 38, Michael Perlak is still far from old news. There is also special praise from his trainer Thomas Hofer.
The Perlak family stands for high quality football in Salzburg. Father Gerhard played a total of 176 Bundesliga games for Austria Salzburg in the 1980s and was one of the best offensive players of his generation. He seems to have passed his talent on to his sons. Gerhard Jr. and Andreas made a good name for themselves in the House of Commons, and Michael, the youngest offspring, is closest to his father.
From Austria to the Bundesliga
The noble technician made the jump to the Bundesliga from western league team Austria Salzburg around ten years ago and played an important role in Mattersburg for several years. In total, Michael Perlak has made 80 appearances in Austria’s top division and almost 100 games in the second division. “I’m happy with the way my career is going. There could always be more, but I could also have missed the step up,” explains Michael Perlak in an interview with the “Salzburger Nachrichten”.
Lots of praise from coach Thomas Hofer
After a few seasons in the lower house in eastern Austria, the ex-professional moved to Kuchl via Anif. He led the Tennengauers to the title in the Salzburg League in his first season and is now also showing in the Western League that at 38 years old he is far from being a thing of the past. “It’s still fun, and as long as I can still help the team, I’m happy to keep playing,” said the Kuchl captain modestly. There is a lot of praise from his coach Thomas Hofer: “When Michael is on the field, all of our players feel more comfortable. He takes a lot of responsibility off of them and can still dictate games with his class. I’m very happy that he’s still there always plays.”
Injury slows down Michael Perlak
The people of Tennengau have known for many years that the name Perlak in Kuchl stands for quality. At the end of his successful career, Gerhard senior played for the club for eight years and ended his career in Kuchl in 2004 at the age of 49. “I won’t compete with Dad. I won’t play until I’m 49. I think from season to season.” It is questionable whether Michael Perlak will still appear in the Herbstkehraus. He is currently suffering from an adductor injury.
