“The tourism sector is an important link in the development of the Greek economy. Our concern is that its employees receive the “dividend” that is due to them from this development in which they actively participate. This is achieved both by increasing wages and by ensuring excellent working conditions”, said the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Domna Michailidou, after the meeting she had on Tuesday (2/4) in her office with the Minister of Tourism. Olga Kefalogianni.

“Our main concern”, added Ms. Michailidou, “is the support of the workforce in tourism especially in view of the summer season. And a measure in this direction is that this year we brought forward the increase in the minimum wage in order to cover those of our fellow citizens who work in tourism and are not covered by a collective agreement.

For us, at the Ministry of Labour, the protection of workers and the safeguarding of their rights is a cornerstone of our policies. That is why strict compliance with labor legislation in the tourism sector is our main concern.”

On her part, Ms. Kefalogiannis, said: “Today’s meeting with the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Mrs. Domna Michailidou, was particularly constructive. A common place of discussion but also a field of our concern is the most important chapter of Greek tourism, which is the human factor. We want workers with guaranteed rights and good working conditions, with the aim of further improving the quality of the modern tourism product”.
