Coach Míchel González already has a team. He is going to Saudi Arabia. The Madrid coach will return to the bench after resigning from Olympiakos last April, and he will do so in the Al Qadsiah, in the Saudi second division. The Arab team, full of Spaniards, has been bought by Aramco, the largest oil company in the world, which has already made a significant investment and has footballers like Joel Robles, Álvaro González – son of Míchel – and Luciano Vietto in its ranks.

The objective of Al Qadsiah is promotion to the Saudi Pro League, for rub shoulders with Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and other stars. Míchel arrives to replace former Liverpool footballer Robbie Fowler, with the team in second position – the first three are promoted – and one point behind first place.

Spanish is spoken

The team’s sports director is Carlos Anton, a football globetrotter who has played for Real Madrid, England, Hong Kong and Kuwait before arriving in Saudi Arabia and creating a project where Spanish is spoken. Míchel, who will arrive with his usual work team, will also have Miguel Ángel García (physical trainer), Monchi (goalkeeping coach), Jesús David Arco (readapter) and Álvaro Astolzi (physiotherapist), in addition to other Spaniards within the organization chart of the club.

Aramco is the most important oil company in Saudi Arabia, and the largest in the world. It is the main sponsor of Aston Martin in Formula 1 and is almost entirely owned by the Saudi government. The oil company has taken over Al Qadsiah, and has invested in various footballers to be able to reach the elite of Arab football as soon as possible. Along with Joel Robles, Álvaro González and Vietto there is also the Peruvian André Carrillo, the Senegalese Mbaye Diagne, the German Alexander Hack and the Englishman Max Power, all of them with a past in Europe.

This will be Míchel’s ninth bench, and his fourth adventure outside of Spain. After Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid Castilla, Getafe (in two stages), Sevilla, Olympiakos (in two stages), Marseille, Málaga and the UNAM Pumas, the Madrid coach will train Al Qadsiah from Saudi Arabia, with the aim of taking him to the first saudi division.
