David is Michelangelo’s masterpiece. The said sculpture is of David who killed the biblical character Goliath. The 5.17 meter tall sculpture is completely nude. However, a principal was forced to resign from the school for introducing David to the students. A school principal in Florida had to resign.
A parent filed a complaint against the principal of Tallahassee Classical School in Florida, Hope Carascula, to management. The management then asked the principal to resign. The teacher was teaching the students about the Renaissance arts. However, at that time, the teacher also introduced Michelangelo’s famous painting, David. However, a parent who came to know this was getting angry. The parent’s complaint was that the students were introduced to obscenity.
The teacher was taking this class for eleven and twelve year old children. This was a lesson on Renaissance arts. There were also references to Michelangelo’s ‘Creation of Adam’ and Botticelli’s ‘Birth of Venus’. However, a parent complained that it introduced children to obscenity. Two other parents also asked that they be informed of what was included in the lesson before teaching it.
Later, the principal was asked to resign. It is not known why the resignation was requested. The principal said he thought it might be related to this lesson. Similarly, the old principal informed the parents before teaching this lesson. Board of Management member Bernay Bishop III said that it was the new principal who did not do it.
