Nobody has to climb Mont Blanc or sail around Mallorca to experience an adventure. Even on seemingly well-trodden paths – on your own doorstep – there is a lot to discover. At least that’s the concept of micro-adventures. The British adventurer Alastair Humphreys is considered a pioneer of these small escapes from everyday life. With his idea he simply wanted to show that adventures are not just for adventurers. Especially when the days get shorter and it gets wet and gray, the sofa invites you to snuggle up there – but if you venture outside your own front door, you can also go on great trips in autumn.

For Alstairs Humphreys, a micro-adventure must be local, inexpensive, simple and short. In an interview with GEO He said that he considers these little escapes from everyday life to be essential, especially for very stressed people. For him, such an experience only becomes truly complete if a night is spent in nature – but that’s up to each individual.

Micro-adventures: Why wander into the distance when the good is so close

The poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe already knew that good things are waiting nearby. Recognizing this and exploring new places, activities or corners is not always easy. The most important step in a microadventure is therefore the beginning. Instead of spending hours or even days planning, the motto is: Just do it! The man who made this type of adventure famous in the Federal Republic also thinks so: Christo Foerster. He has imposed three rules on himself for his everyday escapes, as he revealed in an interview with stern. Probably the most important: moving around without a motor. That means preferably by bike, paddling or on foot. Alternatively by bus and train.

Inspired by the pioneers of little adventures, we present eleven trip ideas for autumn in the picture gallery!
